About Prof Ian Pearce
Prof Ian Pearce was appointed Consultant Urological Surgeon to Manchester Royal Infirmary in 2002 after attending medical school in Nottingham and having trained in Urology in Stoke and the North West Region, in addition to specialist training in Spain, Sweden and the USA. Ian has a specialist interest in benign andrology and leads one of the largest and most comprehensive andrology services in the UK. He was responsible for the widespread introduction of the infrapubic technique for penile prosthesis (implant) insertion into the UK and has trained and mentored colleagues across the country in this technique, as well as publishing and lecturing extensively on Peyronies disease, erectile dysfunction and penile implant surgery. His other specialist interests are urinary tract infection in men and women and benign prostatic disorders. Ian is an advisor to multiple national organisations including NICE, NIHR, MHRA, NHSE and BSI, and serves as an expert advisor to the Parliamentary Health Service Ombudsman and to multiple All Party Parliamentary Groups in Westminster. He is honorary Professor at the University of Salford and honorary senior lecturer at the University of Manchester. As well as being the Co-Director of the Manchester Andrology Research Collaborative, (MARC) and immediate Past Editor in Chief of the Journal of Clinical Urology, Ian also sits on the editorial boards of multiple other journals and maintainsan active clinical research portfolio, having authored 14 book chapters, 10 national and international guideline documents and published over 160 papers. He has lectured extensively around the world representing British Urology in the USA, India, Africa, the Middle east and Australia. Having previously served as Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, Ian is the current President of the British Association of Urological Surgeons, (BAUS), 2024 – 2026. In 2012, Ian was awarded the British Association of Urological Surgeons Karl Storz Golden Telescope for a significant and lasting contribution to Urology, and received the BSoT Silver Cystoscope in 2022 for the best urological trainer in the UK. In 2025, Ian was the proud recipient of the International British Urology Society, (IBUS) Prism award.
