About Mr Piers Page
Piers is an orthopaedic trauma and limb reconstruction surgeon based at Morriston Hospital, part of Swansea Bay University Health Board. His undergraduate training was at Newcastle University, and he remained in the North-East for his early years of postgraduate training until entering the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst for initial officer training. Commissioned into the Royal Army Medical Corps whilst at medical school, he went on to lead a significant MOD-funded research project before moving to the South-East for surgical training. He remained in Kent, Surrey and Sussex for higher surgical training on retirement from the regular Army and undertook post-CCT fellowships in major orthopaedic trauma and limb reconstruction at Oxford and Coventry. He was appointed to his substantive consultant post in Swansea in 2022, and then appointed National Clinical Lead for Trauma in 2023. Prof. Page's interests include deformity correction, non-union, bone infection and complex periarticular trauma. He is also a keen clinical academic - having undertaken a doctoral research degree whilst in full-time training, he is now an Honorary Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences at Swansea University. He is the Principal Investigator on several large studies being recruited to at SBUHB and is research-active in his field. In addition to his clinical and academic practice, Piers has a busy medicolegal practice with a focus on complex injury and clinical negligence. He attained his LLM from the University of Dundee, and was awarded the Diploma of Legal Medicine with Distinction by the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine. Piers believes strongly in a patient-centred approach, sharing the decision-making and ensuring the best possible patient experience throughout their journey of surgery and recovery.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
