About
Mr Cornelius René is a very experienced Ophthalmologist with 40 years of NHS service. He qualified at Middlesex Hospital Medical School in London in 1985. He has practised ophthalmology since 1987, having trained in London/South east and Brmingham/West Midlands regions, and he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Opthalmologists.
Mr René is a specialist in oculoplastic surgery (surgery on the eyelids), lacrimal surgery (tear ducts) and orbital surgery (problems affecting the eye socket). He completed his subspecialty training at Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London and was appointed as a consultant in 1998, initially dividing the time in his NHS practice between Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and Hinchingbrooke Hospital (Huntingdon). However, in recent years his practice has been solely Cambridge based.
He has vast experience in all aspects of oculoplastic surgery including eyelid cancers, eyelid reconstruction, management of other eyelid disorders, eyelid malposition, orbital inflammatory disease, orbital tumours, other socket abnormalities, thyroid eye disease and watery eyes.
Mr René is a founder member, former Treasurer and Past President of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society (BOPSS). He has published extensively in peer-reviewed medical journals and is a keen teacher. He has been a visiting consultant on the Lifeline Express Teaching Programme in China since 2013 and a faculty member of the Lifeline Express International Academy of Eye Health. He is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Cambridge Eye Trust, a charity dedicated to supporting and funding research into eye conditions as well as promoting education in eye health.
