Mr Matthew Shaw

About
University, USA. His Doctorate was performed in the development of the
obstructed bladder, a topic relevant to both adults and children. He received his
specialist Urology training in the North East of England and was appointed
Consultant Urological Surgeon in 2009.
Mr Shaw has worked with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence in the
creation of National quality standards for the management of male urinary
symptoms together with advising on the role of metallic ureteric stents and
prostate biopsy techniques used in the diagnosis of prostate cancer. He has a
particular interest in surgical innovation and research. He has introduced
several minimally-invasive surgical procedures to the region, including HoLEP
and the prostate steam treatment, Rezum. He is widely published in the
International Medical Literature, with publications & presentations
relating to the development of the obstructed bladder, stone surgery and
ureteric stricture management. He is currently Principal Investigator on the
NIHR-sponsored PETS trial, looking at factors affecting thromboembolism in
surgery.
Mr Shaw also works at Wansbeck General Hospital, Ashington where he treats male & female bladder problems, prostate disease (benign and malignant), penile & scrotal
problems, kidney stones and incontinence.
