About

Mr. Mark Cahill is a Consultant Eye Surgeon with a focused expertise in retinal diseases. He serves as the Clinical Lead for Medica (Ireland), which provides crucial photography and grading services for the Diabetic Retina Screen, a national diabetic retinopathy screening program managed by the National Screening Service (NSS).
Mr. Cahill completed his medical education at University College Dublin and pursued higher surgical training in Dublin and Cork. His commitment to advancing retinal care led him to a one-year fellowship in diabetic retinopathy at the Beetham Eye Institute, part of the Joslin Diabetes Center affiliated with Harvard University in Boston. During this fellowship, he engaged in research on novel treatments aimed at preventing vision loss in patients with diabetic eye disease.
Following his time at Harvard, Mr. Cahill undertook a two-year vitreo-retinal surgery fellowship at the Duke University Eye Center, renowned for its expertise in vitreo-retinal surgery. This experience allowed him to refine his skills in assessing and treating a broad spectrum of retinal conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusions, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, and macular holes. After completing his fellowship, Mr. Cahill worked as a consultant eye surgeon at Duke University Eye Center before returning to Ireland in 2004.
In his current practice, Mr. Cahill specialises in the treatment of retinal diseases, cataract surgery, glaucoma, and general ophthalmology, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to his role.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”

— Mr. Mark Cahill
