About Dr Marinos Pericleous
Dr Marinos Pericleous is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with dual accreditation in Hepatology and General Internal Medicine. He currently holds a substantive consultant appointment at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust. He undertook his undergraduate medical training at University College London and the Royal Free Medical School in London. His postgraduate training provided comprehensive experience across the full spectrum of gastroenterology, including complex luminal disease, clinical nutrition, gastrointestinal malignancy, inflammatory bowel disease, and advanced hepatology. He worked as a Senior Clinical Fellow at the ENETS Centre of Excellence at the Royal Free Hospital, developing specialist expertise in the diagnosis and management of neuroendocrine tumours of the gastrointestinal tract. During higher specialist training, Dr Pericleous trained at the internationally renowned Sheila Sherlock Liver Centre and Liver Transplant Unit at the Royal Free Hospital. Through a nationally competitive selection process, he was appointed to the UK Advanced Training Programme in Hepatology and subsequently trained at the Institute of Liver Studies at King’s College Hospital, including the Liver Intensive Therapy Unit. He further consolidated his expertise through clinical posts at the specialist liver unit at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, and as a Visiting Fellow at the Yale–New Haven Liver Center in the United States. Dr Pericleous has a strong academic and research profile. He completed doctoral research (PhD) in liver disease and has presented his work at regional, national, and international scientific meetings. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications spanning gastroenterology, hepatology, nutrition, and gastrointestinal oncology, including papers published in high-impact journals such as The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology, The Lancet Public Health, and Gut. He has also contributed several book chapters and currently serves as Principal Investigator on multiple clinical trials in his field. In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr Pericleous is a fully accredited endoscopist persistently exceeding national JAG quality standards. We runs weekly diagnostic, therapeutic and emergency endoscopy lists. He is also an accredited endoscopy trainer, and is actively involved in the training and supervision of endoscopy trainees. Dr Pericleous is also accredited in liver stiffness assessment using FibroScan®.
