About
Professor Harriet Hiscock is a Consultant Paediatrician, Director of the Children's Hospital Health Services at the Murdoch Children's Research Insitute and Associate Director at the Research Centre for Community Child Health. She has over two decades of experience in the management of child sleep issues, postnatal depression and childhood mental health issues. She sees private patients at the Melbourne Children's Clinic.
Professor Hiscock gained her bachelor's degree in medicine in 1991 at Monash University, after which she went on to gain a fellowship with the Royal College of Australasian Surgeons. She has since undertaken several years of research, which has allowed her to create and implement new clinical practices, such as improving health and wellbeing services, reducing poor quality care, and keeping children healthy and out of hospital. Professor Hiscock has also received numerous awards and funding for her research, authoring over 200 peer-reviewed articles in renowned journals. She has also presented her work at national and international conferences.
Professor Hiscock is well known for her ability to go above and beyond normal methods to help her patients, by developing a range of tools such as a sleep app to help new parents manage child behavioral issues, an e-learning infant sleep package for healthcare professionals, and also a MRCI sleep podcast that provides useful information and tips on childhood sleep. For such tools, Professor Hiscock was awarded the Early Years Ministers Award
