Dr Ravi Rajakariar is a Consultant Nephrologist and Clinical Director of Renal Medicine and Transplantation at Barts Health NHS Trust. He has over 20 years of experience in nephrology, specialising in the diagnosis and management of acute and complex kidney conditions.
His clinical practice covers a broad range of renal conditions, including chronic kidney disease, diabetic kidney disease, glomerular disease, lupus nephritis, vasculitis, hypertension, proteinuria and haematuria. He also has experience in dialysis and kidney transplantation and runs specialist clinics for conditions such as lupus nephritis and vasculitis.
Dr Rajakariar undertook his medical training at the University of Leicester, graduating with first-class honours in both his BSc and MB ChB. He subsequently completed a PhD at the University of London, focusing on the resolution of inflammation, with a continued research interest in immune-mediated kidney disease.
He completed his postgraduate training in nephrology at Barts Health NHS Trust, where he was later appointed as a consultant. In addition to his clinical work, he is actively involved in research, having served as principal investigator on international studies and published in peer-reviewed medical journals.
Dr Rajakariar is involved in medical education and training, contributing to undergraduate teaching at Queen Mary University of London and supporting the training of junior doctors. He also participates in clinical leadership roles, including involvement in regional and national renal services development.
He holds practising privileges at several private hospitals in London, including London Bridge Hospital and clinics on Harley Street, where he provides outpatient consultations and access to dialysis and diagnostic services.
