About Prof Alan Salama
Professor Alan Salama is a Consultant Nephrologist specialising in immunological kidney diseases. He has more than 17 years of clinical experience in renal medicine and is based at the Royal Free Hospital and the UCL Department of Renal Medicine (as Director). He also privately practices at Harley Street Clinic, London Clinic, the Physicians Clinic. He is also a Professor of Nephrology at University College London. He completed his medical degree in London and completed his medical training in hospitals in Oxford and London, including Hammersmith Hospital and Guy's Hospital. He later completed a PhD at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School and further postdoctoral specialist training at Brigham and Women's Hospital, part of Harvard Medical School in the United States. Prof Salama has expertise in all areas of renal health. In his current practices, he performs all aspects of renal care procedures and transplantation; specialising in kidney transplants, autoimmune diseases and polycystic kidney disease. He also has a special interest in autoimmune conditions that affect the kidney, such as vasculitis and glomerulonephritis. Outside his clinical work, he is actively involved in laboratory research investigating autoimmune kidney disease and immune dysfunction in order to find better diagnostic and treatment techniques.
