About Dr Michael Mendall
Dr Mike Mendall, Consultant Gastroenterologist, currently works at the Croydon University Hospital, where he is the Lead Clinician for their gastroenterology unit. He is an expert in performing interventional endoscopy, performing a vast number of colonoscopies, upper GI endoscopies, ERCPs, and many other endoscopic procedures (stenting, videocapsule endoscopy, double-balloon enteroscopy, and oesophageal physiology studies).
Dr Mendall qualified from his foundation training from Cambridge University and the Middlesex Hospital Medical School with distinction. Following this, he went on to do his specialist training in gastroenterology at St George's in London. After completing his training he was appointed to consultant, in his current consultant role he leads a service that performs 12000 endoscopies and treats 1700 irritable bowel disease patients. He has been named as one of the "top private gastroenterologists" by the magazine Tatler in 2013. Throughout his working day, he works multi-disciplinary with dedicated GI radiologists, a specialist histopathologist, upper and lower GI surgeons and GI dieticians.
Dr Mendall also has responsibilities in several professional organisations including serving on the British Society of Gastroenterology Clinical Services Committee, the Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer London Cancer Alliance board, and the National Cancer Intelligence Network Upper GI Cancer committee.
Dr Mendall is also an active member of the research community, publishing extensively on dyspepsia, inflammatory bowel disease, and irritable bowel syndrome. He has an impressive publication history with over 100 peer-reviewed articles in journals like the Lancet, BMJ, etc. He also takes an active role in medical education holding a position on the South West London Gastroenterology Training Committee.
