About Dr Angelo Dawson
Dr Angelo Dawson is a Consultant Neurologist with a specialist focus on functional neurological disorders (FND), general neurology, and neurorehabilitation, alongside a strong academic background in neurological recovery and service development. He trained at the Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine and completed his specialist neurology training on the Northwest London Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust rotation, finishing in 2023. He currently works as a consultant at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, where he runs a large general neurology outpatient service and provides inpatient neurology consultation across the hospital. In addition, he works at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust within the regional specialist Functional Neurological Disorder service (FNDExSEL), where he contributes to specialist assessments, multidisciplinary team meetings, and regional education for patients with newly diagnosed FND. His clinical expertise spans general neurology with a particular specialist interest in functional neurological disorders, including functional (dissociative) seizures, chronic pain, fatigue syndromes, and complex neurological symptom presentations. He also has extensive experience in neurorehabilitation, including both acute and long-term rehabilitation of patients with neurological disability such as stroke, brain injury, and spinal cord injury. His work often focuses on complex cases where neurological symptoms overlap with functional and rehabilitation needs. Dr Dawson holds a PhD in Neurorehabilitation from the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, where his research examined upper limb recovery after stroke using high-intensity rehabilitation interventions and demonstrated the potential for motor recovery beyond the acute phase. For this work, he received The Queen Square Annual Prize in Neurology. He also holds an Executive MSc in Clinical Management and Medical Leadership from Bayes Business School. Alongside his clinical and academic roles, he has contributed to service development and medical leadership, including serving as a Clinical Management Fellow and Lead Resident Medical Officer for Neurorehabilitation at The Wellington Hospital between 2016 and 2020. He is actively involved in developing neurological services and multidisciplinary pathways for patients with complex neurological and functional conditions, as well as contributing to education and training programmes within his specialty.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
