About

Ben Ayliffe is an Independent Prescribing Optometrist with an interest in complex contact lenses, including orthokeratology and keratoconus. He has been a valuable member of the Maskell + Josephson team since June 2017, where he conducts thorough eye examinations as part of an award-winning team. These examinations involve advanced imaging techniques such as swept source OCT, FAF, Optomap, and topography imaging (iProfiler/medmont E300).

In his role, Ben specialises in fitting complex contact lenses, including those for conditions like Keratoconus, Cosmetic lenses, Hybrid lenses, Scleral lenses, and Orthokeratology lenses. Additionally, he conducts dry eye workshops that incorporate advanced diagnostics like meibography and IDRA, along with innovative treatments such as tear stimulation (IPL/IRPL), NuLids, Eyewand, and blephex.

Ben earned his MSci degree in Optometry from The University of Manchester, graduating with First Class honours in 2017. His professional experience includes internships at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, where he gained valuable insights into a wide variety of ocular conditions across multiple subspecialties, including VR, Cornea, EED, and Glaucoma. Ben developed examination techniques, history taking skills, and symptom assessment, which contributed to creating effective management plans.

Furthermore, during his time as a Trainee Optometrist at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Ben performed refractions, contact lens fits, and aftercares for patients with diverse ocular conditions. He also handled complex dispenses and conducted Low vision assessments. With his comprehensive training and experience, he can provide high quality eye care services.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
