Dr Athena Roufas
Ophthalmology
About
Dr Roufas completed her ophthalmology training in Sydney, Australia, before pursuing subspecialist training in glaucoma at Westmead Hospital. She then undertook an additional two years of advanced subspecialist training in cornea and anterior segment trauma at King’s College Hospital in London, UK, where she was trained in the latest corneal surgery techniques. Her training in high-volume tertiary referral centres has allowed her to refine her skills in cornea, glaucoma, cataract, and refractive surgery.
Dr Roufas is a consultant ophthalmologist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney. She is actively involved in research, with multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences.
Her clinical expertise includes cataract and refractive surgery, pterygium surgery, glaucoma monitoring and management, and corneal disease and surgery. She is highly skilled in procedures such as corneal cross-linking for keratoconus, laser treatment for irregular corneas, and corneal graft surgery.
“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”
