About Dr Anita Jayadev
Dr. Anita Jayadev qualified from St. Bartholomews School of Medicine and Dentistry in London in 2005 and works as a respiratory consultant at Wexham Park Hospital with an interest in general and interventional respiratory medicine. Her achievements include: • Establishing and leading the EBUS service at Wexham Park. This procedure is used for diagnosis of cancer, Tb and Sarcoidosis. • She has worked as locum and honorary Sleep and ventilation consultant at St. Bartholomews' Hospital in London and has a specialist interest in sleep medicine. She has set up a sleep service at Wexham Park Hospital. • She is experienced in looking after acute general medical patients. • She has previously held academic training posts, has a range of publications and has been invited to sit on national committees. • She has an interest in patient safety and won the BMJ patient safety team of the year award during her Darzi Fellowship at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Her achievements were recognised by the HSJ and she was awarded 'Rising Star in the NHS award' during her training. She continues to work as the clinical Quality Improvement lead at Wexham Park Hospital and is the Trust Sepsis lead. Lung Cancer Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS)- Transbronchial Needle Aspiration (TBNA) is a procedure useful for the diagnosis and staging of lung cancer. It can be used to directly biopsy central and mediastinal tumours and take samples from lymph nodes to help stage disease. It is performed as a day case where patients are given deep sedation without the need for a general anaesthetic. Dr. Jayadev has set up this service at Wexham Park Hospital and works closely with radiologist, cytologists and oncologists to ensure safe and timely procedures. She has much experience in managing lung cancer patients, including monitoring of lung nodules and those with complex pleural disease. Short and Long COVID Dr.Jayadev has extensive experience in managing acute respiratory failure as well as COVID rehab and follow up. In line with national recommendations, all patients admitted with COVID pneumonitis require follow up. However, with only the sickest patients being admitted, there have been a large proportion of patients affected in the community that may benefit from COVID rehab and follow up that did not meet referral criteria. Dr.Jayadev helped develop the local ‘virtual ward' for COVID patients being managed in the community, that did not meet admission criteria but needed close monitoring and has worked with the ambulatory care team to ensure these patients are followed up as necessary. However, there are still a vast majority of patients that may have ongoing symptoms who may benefit from review and rehab. Dr. Jayadev has worked with the physiotherapy team at Genesis care to devise a COVID rehab programme, where patients can be referred after their ‘post covid review' if this is perceived to be beneficial for the patient. From our cohort of NHS patients that received review and rehab post discharge, all had an improvement in their exercise tolerance, with improved incremental shuttle walk test (ISWT) and endurance test (ESWT) with reduction in depression scores and 100% satisfaction. Any patient still symptomatic from COVID 4 weeks after infection can be seen for follow up and potentially referred for rehab after assessment. Sleep Medicine For patients with a history of snoring and feeling excessively tired through-out the day and concerned they may have underlying obstructive sleep apnoea, Dr. Jayadev can provide an expert opinion. For suspected sleep related breathing disorders an overnight sleep study can be performed, and appropriate management instigated. Areas of interest • Sleep medicine & ventilation management • COVID rehab and follow up • Bronchoscopy & Endobronchial Ultrasound • COPD; Asthma; Bronchiectasis; Pneumonia; ILD • Lung cancer & Acute general medicine • Pleural diseases & interventions
