About Dr Rama Vancheeswaran
Dr. Rama Vancheeswaran is a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine affiliated with HCA Healthcare, practising at The Wellington, Harley Street, Golders Green Outpatients and the Spire Bushey Diagnostic Centre. She also holds an NHS Integrated Consultant post at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. She previously held many positions including: a honorary consultant position at the Royal Brompton ILD unit, the Director of Research at West Herts, where her research focuses on COVID-19, interstitial lung disease (ILD), cancer, pulmonary embolism (PE), asthma, and COPD and the ILD and COPD lead at the Royal Free Hospital (Barnet). She is an avid author with more than 100+ publications and conference articles. She has multiple awards including the HSJ award for Lung cancer 2015, BMJ award for best respiratory team of the year 2021 (as lead), BAME 2021 Clinical Champion of the year and numerous other local and national awards in respiratory medicine. With over 25 years of experience as a respiratory consultant, Dr. Vancheeswaran provides expert care across a broad range of respiratory conditions, including chronic cough, asthma, COPD, bronchiolitis, bronchiectasis, cancer, thromboembolic disease, sleep disorders, all respiratory infections and ILD. Her approach emphasises collaboration with her patients, ensuring a holistic and personalised treatment plan. Dr. Vancheeswaran's medical education and training took place at leading London teaching hospitals, including the Brompton, St Mary's, and Hammersmith. She holds an MSc in Immunology from Brunel University and a PhD from the Royal Free/Brompton/Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology and University College London. Her research, conducted with Prof. Carol M. Black, delved into the immunopathogenesis of scleroderma and fibrosing alveolitis, and she has published extensively on these topics. Dr. Vancheeswaran has served on the Specialist Advisory Group of the British Thoracic Society (BTS) in COPD and was appointed as a patient ambassador for the British Lung Foundation. She is also a member of the Royal College of Physicians and lectures frequently on respiratory medicine across the UK. She has spoken at the British Thoracic Society, Royal College of Physicians, Primary care cardiology society, National respiratory leadership forum, Pulse and various local and national webinars. She was the Respiratory Module lead for Watford at Brunel Medical School. She has trained vast numbers of respiratory trainees, allied health care workers over the years.
