About
New Ross Community Hospital was established in 1989 by the local community in response to the closure of the District Hospital by the South Eastern Health Board in 1987. The hospital is run by a voluntary Board of Directors, and the day-to-day running is overseen by the Director of Nursing. The hospital relies on contributions from the Health Service Executive, private donations, and resident fees to provide care to its residents. The closure of the District Hospital led to the creation of a Community Hospital in New Ross, which was initiated by a group of local Town Councillors. Despite their efforts to keep the District Hospital open, they were unsuccessful, and the community came together to establish a new hospital. A finance group was formed, and local businesses and medical professionals donated their supplies and services to support the hospital.Today, New Ross Community Hospital provides essential services to the local community. The hospital is committed to providing high-quality care and support to its residents and their families, and it remains an integral part of the community. The hospital caters for 35 patients requiring long or short term non-acute medical care.
