Dr Al Halees began his medical education at King Saud University, graduating in 1977. He then pursued extensive postgraduate training in North America, undertaking programmes in Houston and Ottawa. He earned a fellowship in General Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1983, followed by a fellowship in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery in 1984. He further specialised with a fellowship in Paediatric and Congenital Cardiac Surgery in Denver, USA.
Throughout his career, Dr Al Halees has been instrumental in the advancement of cardiac surgery. He is known for his expertise in performing complex cardiac procedures and has contributed significantly to the field through numerous publications and international lectures. His leadership has been recognised through his election as president of the World Society for Paediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery. He is a fellow of several prestigious organisations, including the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the American College of Surgeons.
