About Dr Zaki Hamarneh
Dr Zaki Hamarneh is an Australian-trained Gastroenterologist and Interventional Endoscopist with expertise in both general gastroenterology and advanced therapeutic endoscopy. He completed his specialist training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology in South Australia before undertaking advanced fellowship training in interventional endoscopy at Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. His clinical practice focuses on the diagnosis and management of a broad range of gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disorders. Dr Hamarneh performs advanced endoscopic procedures including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, complex polyp removal, balloon-assisted enteroscopy, Barrett’s oesophagus endotherapy, Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). He has particular experience in the endoscopic management of complex pancreatic and biliary conditions. In addition to private practice, Dr Hamarneh has held a public appointment as a Staff Specialist at Princess Alexandra Hospital since 2021, where he manages complex tertiary-level gastroenterology referrals. He is also a Senior Lecturer at The University of Queensland School of Medicine and remains actively involved in medical education and clinical research. Dr Hamarneh is recognised for his thorough and patient-focused approach, with an emphasis on clear communication, timely assessment and collaborative care with referring clinicians. He provides rapid access and direct-access endoscopic procedures for suitable patients to facilitate efficient investigation and management of gastrointestinal conditions.
