About
Mr Shariff undertook specialist training in General and Colorectal Surgery in South Yorkshire and the West Midlands and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2015. He was awarded an MD for his doctoral thesis on cognitive surgical skills training in colorectal surgery and has presented his research both nationally and internationally.
He has completed advanced fellowships in colorectal surgery and peritoneal malignancy at the Basingstoke Peritoneal Malignancy Institute and at Mount Sinai & St Margaret Cancer Hospitals in Toronto, Canada. In addition, he was awarded prestigious overseas travelling fellowships by the Royal Society of Medicine to New York and Boston, and undertook further specialist training in Washington D.C., USA and Erlangen, Germany, focusing on peritoneal malignancy and complete mesocolic excision (CME) surgery for bowel cancer. In 2018, Mr Shariff was awarded certification by the European Peritoneal Surface Oncology (ESPSO) group.
Mr Shariff now has over eight years of consultant-level experience, with a high-volume practice encompassing primary colon and rectal cancer surgery, complex reoperative colorectal surgery, and peritoneal malignancy. He has particular expertise in cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) and serves as the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Lead for Colorectal and Peritoneal Malignancy. He is robotically trained and routinely performs major robotic colon resections, alongside complex abdominal wall and hernia surgery. He is actively developing a robotic programme for CRS and HIPEC.
Outside of clinical practice, Mr Shariff leads a busy family life and is actively involved in grassroots football as both a coach and referee. He is a keen endurance runner, having completed the last two London Marathons, and is currently training for the Paris Marathon in 2026
