Specialising in urology, Dr Tony de Sousa's aim is to provide patient-focused care, with an emphasis on clear communication and a caring approach to treatment. He is currently a consultant urologist at Monash Health as well as the director of Melbourne Urology Centre.
Dr De Sousa's areas of expertise include the following:
Kidney stone treatment - laser, ESWL, PCNL
Laparoscopic and robotic cancer surgery - prostate and kidney cancer
Minimally invasive treatment for prostate enlargement (BPH) - medical, laser, surgical
PSA evaluation and prostate cancer
Investigation of haematuria and bladder cancer management
Dr De Sousa also operates at Epworth Freemasons, Beleura Private Hospital, and the Kilmore & District Hospital. He also runs a haematuria clinic at Casey Hospital, Berwick where he sees urgent haematuria referrals.
Dr De Sousa qualified in 2004 and was awarded the Queen Victoria Prize from Monash University. He then undertook fellowship training with the Prostate and Breast Cancer Research Program and received The Marshall Prize in Surgical Training for his work on prostate cancer. He also achieved ‘Best Research Paper' in 2013 and was recognised at the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand's Victorian State Meeting.
Dr De Sousa is actively involved in teaching and has spent time as an anatomy demonstrator and tutor for medical students and junior physicians at Monash University. He also currently carries out regular training for registrars.
Outside of the hospital, Dr De Sousa has a passion for sports and has worked as a Medical Officer at the Australian MotoGP and the Commonwealth Games. He has also held the position of Club Doctor at both Sandringham and Melbourne Football Club.
