About Dr Thekkekkara Matthew Roy
Dr. Matthew Roy obtained his medical degree from the University of Bristol in 2004. His early training included experience in Australia, before returning to the UK to complete his Rheumatology training within the South-west region. Dr. Roy currently works as an NHS consultant for University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS trust - Bristol Royal Infirmary and South Bristol Community Hospital, where he cares for patients with all forms of rheumatic conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, polymyalgia and fibromyalgia, amongst others. Dr. Roy's specialist interest is in osteoporosis and bone health. He leads the osteoporosis and rare bone diseases service at University Hospitals Bristol and delivers a regular osteoporosis and rare bone clinic. He is highly experienced in the interpretation and reporting of DXA scans, of which he carries out all of the interpretation of these scans in the trust. He is trained in the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound for diagnosis and management of inflammatory arthritis and uses this in his NHS role. In addition to his practice, he also has a role in undergraduate education for the University of Bristol medical school and has held an honorary senior clinical lecturer post since 2013. Dr. Roy has a passion for looking after individuals with long-term conditions and supporting them through their patient journey. He is responsive to patient enquiries and often provides further email support and advice following the initial appointment; with an understanding that no two patient's journeys are the same and each individual patient has different requirements in their health and treatment.
"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
