Dr Abuzakuk undertook his orthopaedic training at the renowned Cappagh and Mater University hospitals in Dublin before pursuing higher orthopaedic surgery training and gaining his FRCS (Tr&Orth) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland. He went on to train in joint replacement and sports medicine and obtained a Diploma in Sports Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland. He then trained at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, where he completed a two-year fellowship in hip and knee joint replacement and revisions. During this time, he also gained experience in cartilage transplant treatments (ACI & MACI).
Dr Abuzakuk later became a senior arthroplasty fellow and completed an advanced fellowship in hip and knee arthroplasty and revision surgery at Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust. Following this, he joined the Royal Derby Hospital as a trauma orthopaedic, joint replacement & revision, and sports injury surgeon.
He had the pleasure of performing the first ROSA Robotic assisted total knee replacement in Dubai.
Prior to his current position, Dr Abuzakuk spent nine years as the Chief of Department and consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the American Hospital Dubai. He is a regular speaker at local and national gatherings and has worked on several research projects. He has an interest in medical education and teaches and trains both surgeons and medical students.
