About Prof Stephanie Watson
Professor Stephanie Watson is an ophthalmic surgeon at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney Children's Hospital, and Sydney Eye Hospital where she leads the corneal unit. She is also head of the corneal research group at The University of Sydney's Save Sight Institute and is well-known for her groundbreaking research in corneal therapy. Professor Watson specialises in both adult and paediatric eye disorders and has expertise in cataract, corneal, and laser surgery. She provides personalised care to each patient and is able to give comprehensive assessments and tailored management plans to meet each individual's specific needs. Professor Watson has a wealth of knowledge in the field of ophthalmology and is the chair of the Ophthalmic Research Institute of Australia, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology Advocacy and Outreach Committee, and expert advisor to the Stem Cell Therapies Mission. Her research in corneal stem cell biology has altered clinical practice and improved patient outcomes, and she has brought worldwide clinical trials to NSW. Professor Watson has a number of accolades and has been named in the Top 100 Power list for Women in Ophthalmology in 2021. She has also won the Dorothy Potter Medal, NSW Premier's Prize for Leadership in Innovation, and the Gustav Nossal NHMRC scholarship. She was also nominated for the NSW Women of the Year award as well as for the Care and Compassion Medal in the Pride of Australia Awards.
