About Dr S Soundappan
Dr. S. Soundappan is an accomplished General Paediatric Surgeon with extensive experience in the surgical management of infants, children, and adolescents. He is currently the Head of Trauma at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead and a Senior Lecturer in Paediatric Surgery at The University of Sydney. Dr. Soundappan completed his undergraduate medical training at Madras Medical College, India in 1989, and his Paediatric Surgery training at The Institute of Child Health, Chennai in 1996. He relocated to Sydney in 2002, and went on to obtain his Fellowship in Paediatric Surgery from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2008. In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Soundappan is a dedicated academic and researcher. He was awarded a PhD from the University of Sydney in 2021, focusing on the use of ultrasound performed by surgeons in children, and has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Soundappan’s practice encompasses the full spectrum of paediatric surgical care, with particular expertise in: • Minimally invasive and laparoscopic surgery • Trauma care in children • Colorectal and anorectal surgery • Hirschsprung’s disease • Hypospadias surgery • Neonatal surgery • Ultrasound in paediatric surgery Known for his compassionate, family-centred approach, Dr. Soundappan combines surgical precision with a commitment to innovation and education, ensuring the highest standards of care for his young patients.
