About

Mr Simon Harrison is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Hand and Wrist Surgery at Spire Shawfair Park Hospital and Spire Murrayfield Hospital. After completing his medical degree at the University of Dundee, Mr Harrison embarked on specialised orthopaedic surgical training in Yorkshire. He received the fellowship in trauma and orthopaedic surgery in 2017 from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Subsequently, he successfully completed two years of specialised hand and wrist fellowships. The first fellowship took place in Teesside, UK, followed by another at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. Notably, Mr Harrison's hand surgery training was conducted by accomplished hand surgeons with backgrounds in both orthopaedic and plastic surgery, providing him exposure to techniques from both disciplines.

Upon the completion of these fellowships, Mr Harrison assumed the role of a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at NHS Fife in 2019. In this capacity, he specialises in adult hand and wrist conditions. His surgical practice revolves around the treatment of elective hand and wrist conditions, including cases such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger digit, and Dupuytren's disease. Additionally, he handles cases of hand and wrist trauma as well as complications arising from trauma. Collaborating closely with a team of professional colleagues, Mr Harrison develops and implements focused treatment plans for his patients.

Within his NHS role, Mr Harrison actively engages in the training of higher surgical trainees and has contributed to the teaching of several courses related to hand and wrist surgery. He maintains a regular presence at the congresses organised by the British and European Hand Surgical Societies, ensuring he remains up-to-date with the latest advancements and developments in the field.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”

— Mr Simon Harrison
