About
Professor Sheryl Homa is a Clinical Scientist with a remarkable career dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of male infertility. She holds a PhD and is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Her academic journey began with obtaining her degree in Biochemistry from Imperial College of Science and Technology and the Middlesex Hospital Medical School. She then pursued a career in academic research, focusing on oocyte maturation, with funding from the National Institutes of Health in the USA.
Throughout her career, Professor Homa has held positions as the Scientific Director of several fertility clinics in the UK, operating in both the public and private sectors. Her experience in these roles led her to recognise the significant marginalisation of male fertility issues in clinical practice. In response, she founded Andrology Solutions in 2007, the first and only HFEA-licensed clinic dedicated solely to male infertility.
Professor Homa has contributed extensively to research in the field of male fertility, collaborating on numerous projects and authoring numerous scientific articles, abstracts, and book chapters. Her research interests include investigating calcium signalling in sperm and exploring the impact of oxidative stress and infection on sperm quality.
Furthermore, Professor Homa has been instrumental in introducing innovative testing methodologies for male infertility, including the development and CE marking of a chemiluminescence assay for measuring seminal reactive oxygen species.
Currently, Professor Homa is the Director of Andrology Solutions. She holds an honorary Professorship in Biosciences at the University of Kent and serves as the consultant clinical lead for Andrology at The Doctors Laboratory as well as several NHS diagnsotic andrology services .
