Professor Shan Rajendra is a Consultant Gastroenterologist, Hepatologist and Interventional Endoscopist based in Sydney. He is Professor of Medicine (Gastroenterology) at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Director of Medicine and Clinical Executive Director at Bankstown–Lidcombe Hospital, and Director of the Gastrointestinal Viral Oncology Group at the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research.

Professor Rajendra obtained his undergraduate medical degree from the National University of Ireland in 1988. He has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and has served on the Web Committee of the International Society for Diseases of the Oesophagus and as Associate Editor of its official journal, Diseases of the Esophagus. He is also the founding director and lead investigator of the Gastrointestinal Viral Oncology Group, which identified an association between high-risk human papillomavirus and Barrett’s dysplasia and oesophageal adenocarcinoma.
