About A/Prof Senarath Edirimanne
Dr Senarath Edirimanne is a specialist Breast, Endocrine and General Surgeon. They graduated with honours from Flinders University, Adelaide. They completed specialist general surgical training at Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and were awarded their fellowship in 2007. Subsequently, they underwent three years of post-fellowship training in breast and endocrine surgery. Dr Edirimanne's breast surgical training included oncoplastic and reconstructive surgery. They became a founding member of Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand (BreastSurgANZ) in 2011. Their Endocrine surgical training was at Christchurch Hospital and Sir Charles Gairdner/Freemantle Hospitals in Perth. They have been a full member of Australia and New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons (AES) since 2011. Dr Edirimanne is also a member of General Surgeons of Australia (GSA) and part of the GSA leadership group representing the Academy of Surgical Educators (ASE) of RACS. Their current surgical practice includes breast cancer surgery, oncoplastic and implant-based reconstructive surgery in breast cancer patients, thyroid surgery, parathyroid surgery, adrenal surgery and elective/emergency general surgery. As a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Sydney, Dr Edirimanne is actively involved in research and teaching activities. Their research areas, both clinical and basic science, include breast cancer, thyroid cancer, autoimmune thyroid diseases, parathyroid diseases, evidence-based surgery, surgical education and acute general surgical care. Their research is regularly presented at national and international conferences and published in internationally reputable journals.
