About Dr Sean Weaver

Dr Sean Weaver is a highly experienced Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist.  He has been a consultant for 20 years in Bournemouth. Dr Weaver completed his medical training at the University of Oxford, graduating in 1993. His postgraduate training took him through esteemed institutions in Oxford, Bath, Cambridge, and Sydney, resulting in a PhD focused on inflammation during his specialist training in Bath. It was during this time that he developed a deep interest and expertise in IBD and advanced endoscopy techniques. Since his appointment as a consultant in 2005, Dr. Weaver has been at the forefront of gastroenterology services in Bournemouth. He led the Inflammatory Bowel Disease service for 15 years, providing specialised care for patients with conditions such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Dr Weaver was also the first Bournemouth-based physician to achieve accreditation as a Bowel Cancer Screener, a role he held for 11 years. Alongside his clinical work Dr Weaver has developed particlarly expertise in patient safety and quality improvement.  He was the national lead for the Royal College of Physicians quality improvement programme in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).  He went on to have national leadership roles and was deputy medical director and the national healthcare investigation body - HSIB, now HSSIB.  He sits on the patient safety committee for the Royal College of Physicians.  He is also the deputy medical director for the invited review service at the College.  During this time he has qualified with a Masters in Leadership and Quality Improvement and was medical director for quality and safety at University Hospitals Dorset. Dr. Weaver is deeply passionate about gastroenterology. He has experience in all aspects of medical gastroenterology with a special interest in the gut, inflammatory bowel disease and endoscopy.  He is committed to providing personalised, patient-centred care, recognising the importance of co-created treatment plans that respect patient choice and promote shared decision-making. His approach reflects his belief in the evolving complexity of medicine and the need to balance medical expertise with individualised care.

"Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions."
