About
Dr Sean Flanagan is a dual fellowship-trained Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon with subspecialist expertise in otology, neurotology, and skull base surgery. His practice encompasses the management of both adult and paediatric ear disorders, with particular focus on diseases of the ear, tumours of the skull base, and the surgical treatment of hearing loss. His surgical expertise includes cochlear implantation, bone-anchored hearing aids, facial nerve rehabilitation, and advanced skull base procedures.
Dr Flanagan studied medicine at the University of New South Wales, where he now serves as a Conjoint Lecturer. He is actively engaged in the training of ENT registrars, international visiting fellows, and other healthcare professionals. He regularly presents to patient groups, general practitioners, and trainees, as well as at local and international conferences. He also coordinates clinical research projects, including studies into the management of vestibular schwannomas and outcomes in hearing loss and cochlear implantation.
He has undertaken two subspecialty fellowships: a year-long fellowship under Professor Paul Fagan at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, followed by a fellowship at the Gruppo Otologico in Italy, one of Europe’s leading skull base surgery centres. These fellowships provided extensive training in otology, neurotology, and complex skull base procedures.
Dr Flanagan currently holds Visiting Medical Officer appointments at Sutherland Public Hospital, St Vincent’s Public Hospital, and Kareena Private Hospital.
