Dr Saman Punchihewa is a clinical neurophysiologist at Neurology Network Melbourne with a special interest in epilepsy and neurophysiology. He also sees patients at Frankston Hospitals and Monash Medical Centre, where he plays a significant role in the neurophysiology unit. After studying in Sri Lanka at Rahula College, Dr Punchihewa was awarded a scholarship to study medicine and surgery at the University of Melbourne, Australia, where he later received two Dean's Honors. He then completed his clinical training at St Vincent's Hospital before going on to train in New Zealand. Dr Punchihewa then spent a year of post-graduate training at Dunedin Hospital before returning to Australia where he completed a fellowship in neurology focusing on neurophysiology testing and stroke research. He completed a second year of advanced neurology training at St Vincent's Hospital before further fellowship training in electromyography/nerve conduction studies, autonomic reflex screening testing, and epilepsy at Monash Neurology.
Dr Punchiheara is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists and the Amaerican Academy of Neurologists.
