Mr Rui André Quadros Bebiano da Providência e Costa is a Consultant Cardiologist and internationally recognised specialist in cardiac electrophysiology, with extensive expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders. He graduated in Medicine from the University of Coimbra in 2004 before undertaking advanced subspecialty training in Cardiac Electrophysiology, including a fellowship at Clinique Pasteur in France.
From 2014 onwards, he continued his electrophysiology training in London at The Heart Hospital, University College London Hospitals, and later at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. He was appointed Consultant Cardiologist in 2017 and has since developed a highly specialised clinical practice focused on the management of complex arrhythmias. He regularly performs catheter ablation procedures for atrial fibrillation, supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias, as well as the implantation of cardiac pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), and cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) devices.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Da Providência e Costa is an active academic and researcher. In 2023, he was appointed Full Professor of Cardiovascular Epidemiology and Evidence Synthesis at the Institute of Health Informatics Research, University College London. He has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed publications in cardiology and arrhythmia research.
