About Dr Robert Yammouni
Dr Robert Yammouni is a highly experienced optometrist with more than 25 years of clinical, academic, and research expertise. Licensed to practise in both Australia and the United Kingdom, he graduated from the University of Melbourne, internationally recognised as one of the world’s leading optometry schools. Dr Yammouni has held a variety of academic positions across neuroscience, optometry, and ophthalmology, including Associate Professor, Senior Research Fellow, and Lecturer. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to research governance through appointments on university Research and Ethics Committees. Alongside his academic career, he has collaborated extensively with industry, supporting the development and translation of innovative clinical and commercial concepts. Clinically, Dr Yammouni has worked in a wide range of specialised settings, including the Institute for the Blind, paediatric optometry practices in both Australia and the UK, and advanced contact lens clinics. He has a particular interest in binocular vision disorders and contact lens science, with published research in these areas. His current clinical focus includes neuro-visual rehabilitation for patients experiencing visual field loss following neurological events such as stroke or brain tumour, including the use of Peli Prism therapy. Dr Yammouni also has extensive experience in vision therapy (orthoptics) for both children and adults, including the management of strabismus (squints), often helping patients avoid surgery. In addition, he has a longstanding interest in reading difficulties and has undertaken research alongside pioneers in this field. He manages a broad range of anterior eye diseases and is qualified as an Independent Prescriber. His dry eye services include comprehensive assessment and advanced treatments such as IPL, LipiFlow, and BlephEx. He also has expertise in specialised contact lens fitting, including lenses for keratoconus patients. At Barnard Levit Optometrists, Dr Yammouni offers advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies available in only a limited number of UK practices, including ERG testing for the early detection of glaucoma and Valeda treatment for dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
