About
Professor Steven Brown is a respected and very experienced Consultant General Surgeon specialising in colon, rectal and anal problems.
He learnt colonoscopy using Japanese techniques of minimal discomfort and performs most procedures without the need for sedation.
Whilst serving as a professor of surgery at University of Sheffield, he has established a leading regional centre for the treatment of faecal incontinence and constipation introducing many new techniques including sacral nerve stimulation, laparoscopic ventral rectopexy and repair for obstetric injury. He is also registered with the British Haemorrhoid Centre as a regional expert in the HALO procedure and am involved in training other consultants.
Professor Brown also has an interest in inflammatory bowel disease and runs joint clinics and ward rounds with gastroenterologists, regularly offering minimal access surgery for Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis. I carry out pouch procedures- offering a procedure that avoids the need for a stoma.
He is a skilled laparoscopic surgeon, performing bowel cancer procedures that allow enhanced recovery and rapid return to normal activities for his patients. He also offers the best treatments available for anal fissures and fistulas including anal fistula plugs, Botox injection, pilonidal surgery, and advancement flaps - all with same-day discharge.
Professor Brown wrote the national guidelines for management of fistulas in Crohn's as well as for the treatment of inflammatory Bowel Disease.
