About Prof Prasanna Sooriakumaran
Professor Prasanna Sooriakumaran (Prof PS) is an internationally renowned Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon specialising in prostate cancer. He performed the first Retzius-sparing robotic prostatectomies at University College London Hospital, the UK's highest volume prostate cancer surgical centre. He also currently performs more of the salvage and complex robotic prostate cancer surgeries than any other surgeon in that hospital and receives patients who need complex surgery from other robotic surgeons and urologists from all over the world. Prof PS was cited by the Daily Mail as one of the Top Ten robotic prostate cancer surgeons in the UK by a poll of the country's robotic prostate cancer surgeons when asked who they'd want their nearest and dearest to be operated by. This is a testament that Prof PS is considered one of the UK's best robotic prostate cancer by his peers. Prof PS is the only urologst recognised twice by the Evening Standard as one of London's Most Influential People in Healthcare - for his innovations in robotic prostate cancer surgery that have improved patient outcomes. Prof PS is Clinical Lead for Robotic Soft-Tissue Surgery at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), the body responsible for producing national healthcare guidelines in the UK. This leadership role places him at the forefront of shaping robotic surgical services across the country and reflects his recognised expertise in robotic surgery. Prof PS was the first UK urologist to become a Full Professor of Urology at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, and the first Lead for Urology at Cleveland Clinic London, where he performed the hospital’s first urological and robotic procedures. He also established the Urology Multi-Disciplinary Team and Robotic Users Group meetings at the institution. In April 2025, he moved his private practice to New Victoria Hospital in South West London and to LSDC Healthcare in the City of London, where he serves as Chief Academic Officer. In May 2025, he expanded his practice to Cromwell Hospital in West London and Harley Street Specialist Hospital, where he leads urology and men’s health services. Prof PS is the only urologist worldwide to hold Visiting Professorships in Urology at both the University of Oxford and the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, where he is also Visiting Professor of Robotic Surgery. He is widely regarded as one of the UK’s foremost authorities on prostate cancer care, with clinical and research contributions that have significantly influenced modern robotic prostate surgery. His expertise includes advanced techniques aimed at preserving urinary and sexual function, including Retzius-sparing and NeuroSAFE prostatectomy. Prof PS hold a Department of Health and Social care research grant for £3 million to investigate the role of surgery in advanced prostate cancer and is a genuine world leader in the field. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles and delivered more than 300 international lectures and presentations. His research and clinical achievements have earned numerous national and international awards, including recognition as London’s Most Influential Doctor in 2019 and multiple Clinical Excellence and National Clinical Impact Awards. He holds a PhD in Prostate Cancer and additional qualifications in Human Anatomy and Cell Biology (First Class), Medicine (with Honours), Urology, Medical Law and Clinical Investigation. Prof PS completed world-class fellowships with pioneers of robotic surgery at Cornell University in New York, the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm and the University of Oxford. He is a highly sought-after international speaker and trainer in robotic prostate surgery and maintains an active global patient base. His commitment to patient-centred care is reflected in his strong patient feedback and receipt of the Doctify Great Patient Experience Award 2025.
