Professor Kanagaratnam earned his medical degree at Cambridge University before specialising in cardiology and electrophysiology at St Mary's Hospital in London. He received his PhD in 2002 and was given the British Cardiac Society Young Investigator Prize for his work. Following this, he gained funding from the British Heart Foundation for his research, and he is now focusing on atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, and robotic ablation. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College and is a supervisor for PhD students.
