About

Professor Neil Gittoes is a Consultant Endocrinologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and Honorary Professor of Endocrinology at the University of Birmingham, where he is Head of the Centre of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism (CEDAM). He graduated from the University of Birmingham with BSc (Hons) and MBChB (Hons) degrees before completing a PhD in Endocrinology. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.

Appointed as a consultant in 2001, Professor Gittoes has over 25 years’ experience in specialist endocrinology at one of the UK’s largest endocrine centres. His areas of expertise include osteoporosis, metabolic bone disease, and disorders of calcium, vitamin D, and mineral metabolism, alongside his pituitary and Thyroid expertise. He is recognised internationally as a key opinion leader in these fields.

Professor Gittoes has published more than 80 papers, reviews, and book chapters and regularly lectures at national and international conferences. He holds senior leadership roles in endocrinology and healthcare, including Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Osteoporosis Society and Chair of the Specialised Endocrinology Clinical Reference Group for NHS England and NHS Improvement.

He has been awarded a national Gold Clinical Excellence Award in recognition of his contribution to medicine and offers private consultations at The Priory Hospital, Birmingham.

Prof Gittoes actively facilitates the edevlopment of best practice and shares his knowledge worldwide with other Professionals. He is a keen educator and frequently talks at National and International conferences in his areas of expertise.
