About

Dr. Nitin Kolhe trained in kidney medicine in Mumbai, Leeds and London and was appointed Consultant in Derby in 2006. Dr. Nitin Kolhe was Clinical Lead for Kidney Department at Royal Derby Hospital in 2015 and Clinical Director for Specialist Medicine at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton since 2018. He is Fellow of Royal College of Physicians and American Society of Nephrology. He has been strong advocate for home therapies since his training days and has been placing peritoneal dialysis catheters since 1995. The major reason for him moving from India to UK was to train in home therapies, especially, peritoneal dialysis. He has taught peritoneal dialysis catheter placement at PD access academy run by Baxter. He is also International Society of Nephrology's educational ambassador and mentor and has taught placing PD catheters in under-developed countries like Zimbabwe.

Dr. Nitin Kolhe has been AKI advisor to NCEPOD and Chair of Think Kidney's AKI measurement work-stream. Currently, he is member of NHS England's Renal Clinical Reference Group (CRG) and also a co-chair of East Midlands Renal Network. He was Clinical Lead of the Kidney Department of Royal Derby Hospital between 2015 and 2018 and is current Clinical Director for Specialist Medicine Business Unit 2 of University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust

His research interests is in epidemiological studies in acute kidney injury and has widely published in this field.

He treats all kidney diseases and has major interests in hypertension, glomerular diseases, acute kidney injury due to any causes, chronic kidney disease, immunological diseases affecting kidneys, vasculitis and kidney transplants
