Mr Tumia is a highly experienced senior orthopaedic consultant surgeon with over 30 years of specialist expertise in hip and knee surgery. He has performed more than 3,000 primary hip and knee replacements, including over 400 partial knee replacements. His performed joint repalcement success rates for both hip and knee procedures, as reported by the National Joint Registry, are consistently well above the national average, reflecting sustained high-quality practice and outcomes that compare very favourably with national benchmarks.

He completed his advanced orthopaedic training in Aberdeen, where he was awarded an MD (Doctorate of Medicine) for his research into cartilage regeneration. His research has been widely published and presented at national and international conferences.

In 2007, Mr Tumia undertook a prestigious fellowship in complex hip and knee joint reconstruction at the internationally renowned St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto.

Mr Tumia has extensive experience in both primary and revision (re-do) joint replacement surgery, using a broad range of conventional and advanced implant technologies, including ceramic components and surface replacement techniques. He also has a particular interest in hip and knee arthroscopy (keyhole surgery), especially for the treatment of sports-related injuries.

Within knee replacement surgery, he offers specialist expertise in partial knee replacement procedures, including unicompartmental and patellofemoral (kneecap) replacements.

Having performed a high volume of hip and knee replacements, including complex joint reconstructions, Mr Tumia consistently achieves excellent clinical outcomes and high levels of patient satisfaction. He is committed to helping patients return to their desired level of activity and achieve a meaningful improvement in quality of life.

His previous research interests include computer-guided hip resurfacing, recovery following hip resurfacing, wound infection, and knee cartilage and tissue engineering. He has received multiple academic distinctions, including the Best Paper Award in Germany in 2009, and continues to be recognised internationally for his contributions to orthopaedic research.
