Dr Murugesh Nidyananda is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). They also hold a Certificate of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr Nidyananda completed medical school at Monash University. They then completed generalist training in Psychiatry at Royal Hobart Hospital. Throughout their training, Dr Nidyananda has held leadership roles, including Chief Registrar for psychiatry and registrar representative for Tasmanian trainees on the Bi-national Committee of the College. Dr Nidyananda was also the registrar representative for the Subcommittee of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (SATCAP) and served on the Tasmanian Branch Committee.
Dr Nidyananda completed advanced training in child and adolescent psychiatry at Melbourne University's Mindful Centre for Training and Research. During this time, they worked in Clare House at the Gender Clinic in Clinic 60 and undertook research with Professor Brett McDermott. Dr Nidyananda's experience is driven by their passion for supporting gender-diverse individuals and their families using a biopsychosocial approach centred on family therapy-informed principles.
They are a member of the Perinatal Society of Australia and New Zealand and the International Association for Premenstrual Disorders (IAPMD).
