Professor Vijay Sangar was appointed to his Consultant role in 2007 and became Professor of Urology at the Manchester Academic Health Sciences Centre (University of Manchester) in 2018.
He specialises men's health and is nationally renowned for his practice in Penile Surgery. His work also extends to Sexual Dysfunction, including erectile dysfunction, infertility, scrotal problems and peyronies disease. He also has extensive experience with urological cancer diagnostics and treatments, working as part of one of the UK's premier pelvic cancer teams. His other area of expertise is bladdder cancer, both non-invasive and invasive forms.
Professor Sangar is actively involved in clinical research, particularly in penile cancer and bladder cancer. He was instrumental in developing one of the largest penile biobanks in the world and developing bladder sparing techniques.
He has held numerous prestigous roles including Director of Surgery at The Christie, Lead Penile Surgeon for the North West of England, Executive Committee member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons Section of Andrology and Genito-Urethral Surgery and Chair of NHS England's Specialised Urology and Cancer Surgery Clinical Reference Group. He continues with Clinical roles in NHS England and Chairs the Cancer Stream for eUROGEN (EU rare disease network), amongst his other national and international roles.
