About Mr Shanmugam Vetrivel
Mr Shanmugam Vetrivel is a highly experienced Consultant General and Vascular Surgeon with over 25 years of experience. He retired from the Sunderland Royal Hospital in December 2024, where he had been a Consultant for the past 28 years. He has been engaged in private practice in the North East of England for over 27 years, having practice privileges at Spire Washington and Nuffield Health Newcastle Hospitals. Mr Vetrivel specialises in treating arterial and venous problems, as well as hernias. He offers a wide range of treatments for varicose veins and spider veins, including radiofrequency ablation, foam sclerotherapy, and microsclerotherapy, as well as Veinwave. He also performs open and keyhole surgery for hernias, and is experienced in removing skin and soft tissue lumps. In addition to his work as a surgeon, Mr Vetrivel is also an active member of various professional bodies. He has a good reputation among colleagues and among patients in both NHS and private practice. He also performs ingrown toenail surgery. Outside of work, Mr Vetrivel is an avid sportsman, regularly playing tennis and golf. He also enjoys cycling in his spare time.
