About

Mr Shahnawaz Rasheed is a Consultant Surgeon at The Royal Marsden and a Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London, where he contributes extensively to research, education, and global surgical development. Widely respected in his field, he has published extensively and delivers lectures nationally and internationally on advanced aspects of colorectal cancer.
Mr Rasheed graduated from St Bartholomew’s and The London Hospitals’ Medical School in 1997. He went on to become a Member and later a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He was awarded a PhD from Imperial College London for his research into colorectal cancer, carried out at St Mark’s Hospital in collaboration with the Weatherall Institute, Oxford, and the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.
He provides a comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic service for colorectal cancer, including endoscopy. His clinical expertise spans primary, locally advanced, and recurrent colorectal cancer, delivered through open, laparoscopic, and minimally invasive techniques. He is among a select group of UK surgeons using the da Vinci Xi surgical robot to perform robotic colorectal cancer surgery.
Alongside his NHS and academic roles, Mr Rasheed is dedicated to improving global health. He oversees development projects in low- and middle-income countries, leads international disaster response teams, and delivers training on crisis and disaster medicine. He serves as the Global Medical Director of the humanitarian organisation Humanity First, is a Permanent Council Member of the G4 Alliance—advocating for surgical, obstetric, trauma, and anaesthesia care worldwide—and leads the Forum on International Crisis Management at the Institute for Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”

— Mr Shahnawaz Rasheed
