About Mr Richard P Baker
Diseases, Medical Tests and Treatments Consultant Mr Richard Baker is a hip and knee replacement surgeon. He has worked as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Bristol's Southmead Hospital since 2011, carrying out routine and complex joint replacement surgery. He currently performs up to 350 joint replacements each year. Richard works closely with his anaesthetist Dr S Tolchard and together they have performed in excess of 2,500 operations. Richard trained in Bristol and spent his final year before becoming a consultant in Canada, where he completed a prestigious joint replacement fellowship at the world-class Vancouver General Hospital of British Columbia. He uses techniques acquired in both the UK and North America to benefit patients undergoing joint replacement surgery of both the hip and knee. Clinics are offered at the Spire Hospital and the Chesterfield Hospital in Bristol weekly and Tetbury Hospital alternate weeks. Surgery is performed at either of Bristol's private hospitals –The Chesterfield Hospital (Nuffield) or The Spire Hospital. Each hospital has its unique advantages and Richard will be happy to discuss these in depth with his patients. Both hospitals offer a high standard of care and were awarded a Good Care Quality Commission rating at their last review. Mr Baker offers cutting edge Robotic knee replacement surgery at the Chesterfield Hospital which is located in the gentile Clifton village, while The Spire Hospital is the only private hospital to offer high dependency care in the South west and is conveniently located near the beautiful Bristol Downs and has excellent new parking facilities.
