Mr Rajkumar Ariyaratnam is a Rheumatologist. Mr Ariyaratnam graduated from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1975 and completed an internship in Paediatrics and General Surgery. Following their internship, they practised as a medical practitioner in a rural practice for two years before completing two years as a Registrar in General Medicine at a Teaching Hospital (Kandy).
Mr Ariyaratnam moved to the UK in 1982 and worked as a Senior House Officer in Neurology at Preston Hospital. Following this, they were Senior House Officer in General Medicine at Wrexham. Mr Ariyaratnam then worked as a Registrar in Wolverhamptom and Ormskirk before spending two years working as a Staff Rheumatologist at Wrightington Hospital and another two years as a Senior Registrar at a group of hospitals in Sheffield.
In 1995, Mr Ariyaratnam took a post as a Consultant in Rheumatology and Rehabilitation in the North West before retiring from the NHS in 2016. In addition to their rheumatology practice, Mr Ariyaratnam trains postgraduates in their NHS practice. They are also an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians of London.
Mr Ariyaratnam is married to a Consultant Paediatrician and has two children who are both NHS Doctors. They are a keen cricketer and played cricket for school and University teams as well as at Leyland Cricket Club. Other hobbies include walking, Sri Lankan cooking and listening to music.
