Mr Hasan is Lead Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the Manchester Heart Centre. He has operating privileges at The Alexandra Hospital [Cheadle] and Manchester University Hospitals including Manchester Royal Infirmary and Wythenshawe Hospital. He obtained his medical degree in Egypt and trained at London Chest Hospital, South Manchester University Hospital and Papworth Hospital. He completed an advanced fellowship in cardiac surgery at the Mayo clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Mr Hasan is renowned for his innovations and was one of the earliest adopters of Minimally Invasive Transcatheter Valve techniques. He performed the first human Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement in the world and has carried out more Transcatheter valve procedures than any other cardiac surgeon in the UK. He specialises in Minimally Invasive Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement with hemisternotomy, trans-subclavian and transfemoral approaches, making incisions as small as 3cm.
He also specialises in mitral valve repair or replacement. He is one of the pioneers of beating heart, also known as Off-Pump Coronary Artery Revascularisation. Since the idea of avoiding the heart and lung machine during a coronary artery procedure was first conceived, Mr Hasan has been at the forefront of developing this technique and mastering the art of Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting.
