About

Mr. Phil Simpson is a highly experienced orthopaedic surgeon with a particular focus on the management of hip and knee conditions. Born and raised in Scotland, he completed his medical degree at Edinburgh Medical School in 1999.

During his training, Mr. Simpson undertook a fellowship in Brisbane, Australia, where he focused on Computer Assisted Knee and Hip Replacement surgery. This international experience enriched his understanding of advanced surgical techniques.

In 2010, Mr. Simpson began in his current role as a consultant at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. His extensive expertise covers the management of hip and knee problems, with a specialisation in joint replacement surgery. He is proficient in performing Hip, Knee, and Partial Knee Replacement surgeries, and his dedication to improving patient outcomes has led him to adopt robotic arm-assisted joint replacement techniques. This advanced approach has demonstrated significant benefits in patient care, particularly in complex cases such as patients with previous hip dysplasia (DDH).

Mr. Simpson is not only a skilled surgeon but is also involved in teaching. He has played a vital role in training the next generation of surgeons and has organised cadaveric surgical training courses across Europe and worldwide.

Beyond his medical career, he has a lifelong passion for sports. He has represented his country in gymnastics and rugby. In 2007, he completed the challenging IronMan South Africa, a long distance triathlon.

“Evidence-based care tailored to each patient — taking the time to explain options and shared decisions.”

— Mr Phil Simpson
