About Prof Omar Faiz
Professor Omar Faiz is the Clinical Director and Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at St Mark’s Hospital and Professor of Practice in Colorectal Surgery at Imperial College London. His clinical expertise spans the surgical management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes, colorectal cancer, and proctology. Professor Faiz trained in general and colorectal surgery across London and the South East of England, completing specialist fellowships at St Mark’s Hospital and Valencia University Hospital. He was appointed Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in 2008 (St Mary’s Campus) and joined St Mark’s Hospital as a Consultant in 2012. A leading academic and educator, Professor Faiz has supervised over 20 PhD and MD research fellows at Imperial College and authored more than 250 peer-reviewed papers, 11 book chapters, and three textbooks. His principal research interests include colorectal surgical epidemiology, health services research, and surgical outcomes analysis. At a national level, he has held numerous leadership roles, including Chair of the ACPGBI IBD Subcommittee, Chair of the National Ileal Pouch Registry, and contributor to NICE and IBD Standards guidelines. He currently serves as Lead for IBD Surgery for the ACPGBI, sits on the Board of Surgical-European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation (S-ECCO), and is an Associate Editor for Colorectal Disease.
