Prof Nasir Quraishi

Professor Nasir Quraishi is a senior Consultant Spinal Surgeon and Honorary Professor in Nottingham since 2009, specialising in the full scope of spinal surgery from the craniovertebral junction to the sacrum. His expertise includes minimally invasive spinal procedures, degenerative cervical and lumbar spine disease, spinal oncology, trauma, infection, and complex deformity surgery primarily in adults. Professor Quraishi trained at Imperial College London, the Cambridge/East Anglia trauma & orthopaedic specialist registrar training programme, and in Manchester Medical School. He undertook an advanced spinal neurosurgery/orthopaedic fellowship in Toronto. During this period, he developed specialist skills in complex spinal reconstruction and paediatric/adult spinal deformity. He began his consultant career in Oxford and was subsequently awarded the prestigious Norman Capner Travelling Fellowship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where he refined his expertise in managing complex spinal tumours and reconstruction. His commitment to global surgical care led him to volunteer in Malawi in 2008, where he worked as only the second spinal surgeon in a country of more than 10 million people. He has also served as a visiting surgeon to spinal units in Bologna and Vancouver. In 2014, he was one of only three surgeons worldwide to receive the distinguished Scoliosis Research Society Travelling Fellowship, visiting leading spinal centres across the United States. Professor Quraishi is an award-winning international presenter, has published over 130 peer-reviewed artciles and is an active faculty member of several international spine societies. Alongside his clinical practice, he has completed a Master of Laws with an Honours thesis on Clinical Negligence and the Spine Surgeon, a PhD focused on Outcome and Health-Related Quality of Life Following Surgery in Spinal Cancers and an executive MBA in Healthcare awarded with Distinction in 2025.
