About Mr Mark Gudgeon
Mr Mark Gudgeon was appointed as a Consultant General Surgeon to the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary in 1995, and subsequently to Frimley Park Hospital in 1998. As a senior registrar, he developed a specialist interest in colorectal surgery and he was one of the early developers of laparoscopic colorectal surgery. Additionally, he has been a trainer on the national programme since its inception. More recently, he has developed a major interest in robotic surgery. Whilst he trained as a General Surgeon working in all areas of the speciality, he focused particularly on laparoscopic surgery. His main research interest is the improvement of rectal cancer surgery. Furthermore, he is an accredited colonoscopist for the national bowel cancer screening programme. Mr Gudgeon is also involved in improving the treatment of rectal cancer and training the next generation of general surgeons. Mr Gudgeon is a vastly experienced having performed over 12000 colonoscopies, over 1000 operations to remove bowel cancer and over 400 resections.
